- Norton Rose Fulbright launches employability program
Global legal practice Norton Rose Fulbright has launched a worldwide employability program aimed at providing long-term paid employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
‘Working Start’ is designed to provide employment for individuals who have a physical and / or intellectual disability, improve opportunities for colleagues who have a disability, and promote confidence in disability across the global business.
McLaren Honda, as part of the global corporate partnership with Norton Rose Fulbright, will support the legal practice’s initiative through mentoring and coaching support, focusing on the partnership values of teamwork, innovation and excellence.
In its first year of operation, ‘Working Start’ will host candidates at Norton Rose Fulbright across key regions including, Australia, Canada, Europe, Middle East and Asia, US and South Africa. Employment opportunities will range from virtual working to in-office working, depending on the needs of the candidates and of the business. Candidates will be matched and paired with local teams across the practice, covering legal and business service departments.
The program will be open to all people with disabilities, specifically leveraging the relationships of Norton Rose Fulbright’s graduate employment teams. Participants of ‘Working Start’ will also collaborate on a global team project to help Norton Rose Fulbright become more disability confident as an organisation.
Peter Martyr, global chief executive, Norton Rose Fulbright, commented:
“Becoming disability-confident is a catalyst for making our global practice more productive and more effective. The benefits are proven; more engaged and productive employees, more effective talent recruitment, more innovation and use of new technology, stronger client relationships and a better overall reputation.
“We value the benefits diversity can bring to our business and through this program we will encourage an even more inclusive culture globally, where we will be able to unlock the full potential of our diverse workforce.”
Jonathan Neale, McLaren Honda Chief Operating Officer and CEO, said:
“With Norton Rose Fulbright, the McLaren Honda racing team has a true partnership based on the shared values of leadership, teamwork and the pursuit of excellence.
“We are therefore proud to support Norton Rose Fulbright’s ambitions by providing their employees with unique and valuable insights from the world of motor racing that they can then take back and apply to the practice.”
Selected employees will also have access to a Grand Prix race in 2015/2016 to help them gain insights into high performance and creating and maintaining great teamwork. This resonates with Norton Rose Fulbright’s vision to be recognised as a leading global legal practice.
To mark the launch of ‘Working Start’, Norton Rose Fulbright co-hosted a seminar with Helen Cooke, founder of My Plus Consulting, who provides support to organisations to help them understand and address the issues around disability in the workplace.
