The partners of the Norton Rose Fulbright LLP financial services team invite you to their latest breakfast briefing.
Our breakfast briefings provide insight, practical knowledge and information, and act as a forum for sharing views and advice.
The briefings are likely to be of particular value to senior and middle management within financial institutions with responsibility for compliance, capital markets, investment management, legal, risk and trading.
In May 2016 Parliament made the necessary legislative changes to extend the senior managers and certification regime (SM&CR) to the wider financial services community (approximately 47,000 firms) and empower the FCA to make relevant rules. Following a series of consultations in 2017/18 the FCA is expected to publish its final rules on extending the SM&CR this summer, with implementation to follow later. The FCA has indicated that it considers the SM&CR to be evolution, not revolution. Already, firms in the banking sector have reported greater collaboration and a positive shift in culture as a result of the SM&CR’s implementation. Firms that will fall within the scope of the extended SM&CR can learn from their experience and begin nurturing this culture as well as revising and updating practices in line with FCA expectations.
