Healthcare industry at risk

October 5, 2017 | 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm CT | Webinar | Accreditation 1.00 CLE

Since March of this year, there have been at least 10 recorded cases of workplace violence throughout the country, resulting in 26 deaths and 12 injuries. The last of these incidents occurred at the Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center in NYC where the shooter was a physician who had previously worked there for several months before quitting when he was accused of sexual harassment. He fatally shot another physician and wounded 6 others before taking his own life. Healthcare workers already face increasing incidents of verbal abuse, physical assaults and injuries, often from patients they are trying to care for so having to worry about disgruntled co-workers has created a real crisis. There are a number of steps the healthcare industry can undertake to ensure the safety of their employees, patients and members of the public.
