October 5 – FinTech developments – initial coin offerings

Initial coin offerings are the "flavor of the month" in the blockchain world. "ICOs" have attracted more than $1.8B in capital in the past year, and new sales are announced frequently with great fanfare. Given the attention ICOs have garnered it is not surprising that regulators have taken notice. Recently the SEC has issued cautionary guidance, and some countries have banned them altogether. ICOs raise myriad legal and regulatory issues whose solutions are often fact-intensive. For example, what is the purpose of the coin/token to be offered? To whom will it be offered? What are the cross-border implications of a global offering? What about compliance with anti-money laundering and economic sanctions laws?

Our panel will walk through this evolving landscape and tell you what each potential offeror (and investor) needs to know.

Topics will include:

  • Overview of initial coin offerings (ICOs)
  • Market practices
  • Regulatory considerations
