Having reached our 2015/16 fund-raising target of US$250,000 in support of Special Olympics, our global charitable initiative for 2016/17 will be in support of the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
The Nelson Mandela Foundation sets out to deliver to the world a resource on the life and times of Nelson Mandela, and to promote sustainable solutions to critical social problems – shelter, education, literacy, food and security.
Over the next year, we will raise funds for the Nelson Mandela Foundation through a series of fund-raising events – some local, some global.
Challenge 67 – the theme of our fundraising
Mandela Day was launched in 2009 as a global call to action which celebrates the idea that each individual has the power to transform the world, and the ability to make an impact. The Mandela Day campaign message is: “Nelson Mandela has fought for social justice for 67 years. We’re asking you to start with 67 minutes.”
In the spirit of the 67 minutes for Mandela campaign, we are appealing to all colleagues, friends and contacts to get involved in any type of activity with a 67 theme to help raise funds for this initiative.
Our primary global fund-raiser will be a project to build homes and food gardens, over 10-12 February 2017, in Johannesburg.
Through the Nelson Mandela Foundation, volunteers from our offices around the world will work to construct homes as part of a community housing development project in Johannesburg. We will also assist in creating sustainable food gardens at two schools in Johannesburg, to help support their learner feeding scheme.
The message behind the campaign and the legacy of Nelson Mandela is simple – that each individual has the ability and responsibility to make an impact through public service. The call to action is clear: take action, inspire change and empower communities everywhere.
