Community involvement

Throughout our history, we have continuously aimed to earn our clients’ trust. We have always believed in our social and professional duty to maintain a commitment to the community.

Many of our lawyers, professionals and employees are involved in a broad array of initiatives that enable us to give back to others and to put our three core values of quality, unity and integrity into practice.

Some of our recent initiatives include:

Prostate Cancer Canada

Norton Rose Fulbright Canada is proud to join Prostate Cancer Canada and key business leaders across the country in committing its support to the first Wear Plaid for Dad campaign to raise awareness and help the fight against prostate cancer. The fundraising campaign, which will be online, will run from May 14th to June 21st (Father’s Day). On Friday, June 19th, everyone in the firm will be invited to show his or her support for Prostate Cancer Canada by wearing plaid to work for a minimum donation.

Canadian Red Cross

Our Montréal office has proudly supported the Canadian Red Cross as a partner for several years. Their eleventh benefit event will be held on May 20, 2015 and will be co-chaired by Mr. Norman Steinberg and Mr. Martin Thibodeau, president of the Quebec section of the Royal Bank of Canada. Each year, this humanitarian gathering, now an essential part of the Montreal scene, has raised an average close to a million dollars yearly in support of the Red Cross, whose main goal is to help those in need when they need it the most.

BP MS 150

In April 2014, a team of more than 150 cyclists from our global legal practice, including 28 Canadian riders, took part in the BP MS 150 to raise money and awareness for people with multiple sclerosis. Cycling 180 miles (290 kilometers) from Houston to Austin, Texas, the BP MS 150 cycle ride is the largest event of its kind in North America.

The Calgary office has supported the Food Bank for many years, through both donations and annual food drives. Nearly 130,000 families and individuals from all neighbourhoods and all quadrants of the city used the Food Bank last year.

Christmas Adopt-a-Family Campaign

For more than 20 years, our Calgary office has been ‘adopting’ families to provide Christmas wish list items and donating funds in connection with local charities such as Neighbourlink and the Calgary Women’s Shelter.

CIBC Run for the Cure

On October 5, 2014, 22 runners/walkers/survivors, friends and family members got up early to complete this year’s CIBC Run for the Cure at various locations across the GTA. Together, with the generous support of colleagues, friends and family members, we raised over $4,400 for breast cancer research.

Dr. Gordon Higgins School

The Calgary office has been a Partner in Education with Dr. Gordon Higgins School for more than 20 years. Through our partnership, we have been supporting various events and programs at the school, both financially and through volunteerism.

Giant Steps

Our Montréal office is proud to support the Giant Steps School and to participate in the development and success of its students.

Habitat for Humanity

Our Calgary office has been a sponsor of Habitat for Humanity for many years and once again brought a group of volunteers together to help build homes for deserving families in Calgary. Habitat's mission is to mobilize volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting home ownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty.

Karine Belleau-Béliveau

We are proud to be sponsoring runner Karine Belleau-Béliveau so that she can devote herself to her sport on a full-time basis with the aim of fulfilling her dream – to compete at the Rio Olympics in 2016. This elite athlete, who specializes in the 800-metre event, will be taking part in the 2014 Athletics Canada Indoor Open. Having participated in the World Championships in Moscow in 2013 where she came in 32nd, Karine is now preparing for the 2014 Commonwealth Games and hopes to continue her progression in the world rankings.

For several years the Ottawa office has participated in The OttawaReads program which is a volunteer program initiated by The Ottawa Network for Education that arranges for employees from companies to read to children in JK, SK, and grade one in an effort to help young children acquire literacy skills and a lifelong love of reading. Members of the office read to children at R. E. The United Way movement is the largest funder of the volunteer sector and social services in Canada. The donations are reinvested in local communities to support programs and services directed at improving the social conditions of Canadians.
